Shelf Collective

In 2019 I set up the Shelf Collective, an intersectional feminist art collective, dedicated to diversifying the feminist movement. We aim to create a more representative and accessible feminist community by running educational workshops, events, and exhibitions, that promote the narratives of minority groups within the feminist movement.

Greenham Common, Tate Exchange

Tate Modern

2019

Collaborating with the Feminist Library and Tate Modern Gallery to run an exhibition and series of workshops open to the public, based on the Greenham Peace Camp. Shelf Collective created an immersive and collaborative performance piece. This involved transforming the top floor of the Tate into a recreation of the Greenham peace camp, installing a large grass floor and tent like structures. We then inhabited the space whilst hand embroidering a large banner dedicated to the memory of the peace camp and all it achieved. The audience were invited to participate in this performance whilst we taught them hand sewing and embroidery skills. The hand sewn banner is now part of the Feminist Libraries collection.

Feminist Library Welcome Party

A to B Gallery, London

2019

Shelf collective conducted an extensive research project in the Feminist Libraries archive, excavating key moments of feminist history that were driven by minority groups. We used this research as the starting point for a series of collaborative textile works that aimed to celebrate the achievements of these unsung moments. We then displayed these works in a weeklong exhibition that aimed to create links between the student community at Camberwell College of Arts, and the Feminist Library, as the library moved into its new space in Peckham.

Primary School Workshops

We worked in primary schools with children ages 7-11, running educational and creative workshops that taught them about sustainable fashion, feminism and identity through painting, sewing and drawing.
